BREEDING COMPANIONS TO CHAMPIONS
A PERSONAL MESSAGE TO OUR FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES:
It is with great reluctance that Beverley and myself have made the extremely difficult decision of reducing our herd by way of auction.
We have a beautiful, colourful herd of over 80 alpacas, which are cared for mainly by myself with some help at mating, shearing and injection time.
Unfortunately, I am finding it is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain this size herd with all the strenuous, physical labour required at key times of the year. The winter weather worsens each year making the caring of our herd, single handedly over the hilly terrain of our 45 acre farm harder and harder for me.
Hence, the sad conclusion that we must reduce our herd substantially in order to be in a position to provide the best care that we can for the reduced herd.
The auction will be a very sombre day for us.
On a lighter note, we will continue breeding, showing and marketing. We will be concentrating our breeding programme on fewer leading bloodlines to ensure the very best development of our herd genetics to achieve our goal to breed the highest quality, best type Huacaya and Suri with sound conformation and dense fleece for fibre production.
BREEDING OBJECTIVES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
Alpacas At Wealden have strived to build a herd of quality alpacas using the top genetics from World Class herd sires. They have achieved phenomenal success in the show ring since showing their first progeny in 2007 - winning a colour championship in this first year.
From a foundation herd of just 6 pregnant females, with a growing, but small herd in the early years, they have achieved many colour championships in both halter and fleece classes at Local, National and International level, both Huacaya and Suri. Two of their Suri’s have attained Best Suri.
This continued success has been due to the year on year improvement to each generation by the incorporation of genetics from top bloodline herd sires including the renowned Dovecote Jaquinto, The Chief and the famous MacGyver.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU …
You can add these proven genetics to your own breeding programme, to aid the next step in the development of your herd, by taking advantage of the quality, pedigree alpacas that will be listed at our auction.
There will also be some handsome males suitable for fibre production, pets and livestock protectors.
IMPORTANT REMINDER
IF YOU ARE NOT YET THE PROUD OWNERS OF ALPACAS, PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THEY ARE HERD ANIMALS AND MUST BE KEPT IN GROUPS, OF THEIR OWN KIND, OF AT LEAST 3.
